Special emphasis will be placed on important safety concerns when using a torch and making beads. We will discuss work surface, ventilation, personal apparel, eye wear, bead release, coefficient of expansion as it applies to glass, how to introduce glass rods into the flame to minimize shocking and ergonomics. As part of basic skill development, we will make frit (crushed glass), pull stringers and make some spacer beads. This class is intended as a prerequisite and preparation class for students intending to use the torch at the Clinton Arts Center. Skills developed in the class may also be used to expand options for class fusing classes. Bring a friend (or more) and join us in this new adventure. |
